Skin Care for People Who Live Where the Air Hurts Their Faces

I love New York. However, the older I get, the more my skin is affected by the dry, cold air. My skin was dry and flaky. My skin’s texture wasn’t it at all. So naturally, after much research as well as much trial and error, I have found a skin routine that keeps my combination skin moisturized and in a decent texture so that I don’t look like the inside of a baklava.

First Step: Cleanse

I needed something that did a better job at cleansing my skin and washing the impurities off my face. I was also dealing with a weird skin texture on my nose as I felt that my pores on my nose were clogged. After much research, I’ve landed on this bad boy (or girl - or they):

La Roche-Rosay Gentle Foaming Cleansing Oil

My previous cleanser left my skin extremely dry. It also made me develop a bumpy texture on my nose. Within a week of using this product, my skin’s texture has improved tremendously and my skin wasn’t as dry as before.

Second Step: Toner

I’ve been using the Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner due to it’s hydrating factor and the fact that I have dark spots on my skin. This product is formulated with niacinamide, arbutin, and licorice root extract to brighten and improve appearance of enlarged pores. My skin feels refreshed after I spread the toner all over my face.

I’m also a huge fan of this toner:

The CeraVe Hydrating Toner leaves my skin super moisturized and also has niacinamide which helps with dark spots.

Third Step: Serum

As someone that’s in her late 30’s, I need something to help minimize the appearance of fine lines. Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid Serum leaves my skin incredibly moisturized and fresh. This product has been doing a great job so far, however I’m open to exploring other options.

Fourth Step: Moisturize

I’m a weirdo that double moisturizes in the winter. First I apply Laboratoires Embryolisse’’s Lait-Crème Concentré cream:

This is the best moisturizer I’ve ever used. I’ve tried dozens of other products but they do not compare to this brand. This moisturizer is also an incredible makeup base. My foundation looks incredible with this product underneath it.

Since one layer is not enough for me, I apply my second layer with The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA:

I’m a huge fan of The Ordinary not just because of their price point, but because of the quality of their products.

By the time I finish applying these products to my face, I look and feel like a glazed donut. However, this is necessary for me to survive in a climate where the air hurts my face.
